Hello, English Learners. During Informal Introductions, we normally introduce the friends or family members we are together with, with other friends or family that we meet and discuss with. This way, all the people feel welcome and connected to our discussion, and no one feels left out.
Imagine that you’re at a party with your brother and meet your best friend from high school. How would you introduce your brother to your best friend from high school? How would you introduce your best friend from high school to your brother?
Imagine that you’re invited at your sister’s wedding and meet your sister’s husband for the first time. How would your sister introduce you to her husband? How would your sister introduce her husband to you?
Imagine that you’re organizing a party at your home and have invited many of your friends as well as all your family to your party. How would you introduce your best friend to your parents? How would you introduce your parents to your best friend?
It is of key importance that we introduce our companions with people we meet and discuss with. It is the polite thing to do.
