How to Communicate More Effectively (Article 4)

I’m sharing the same tips I use every day when communicating with potential clients and customers.

If you’re not good at speaking with other people or even if you are, these tips will help you improve your communication skills.

STEP 1: Know your audience

Know who you’re talking to.

How much do they know about your business? How much time do they have to dedicate to learning more about your company?

Are they willing to invest the extra time in learning about your company and its services?

STEP 2: Have a clear message

Your message should be simple. It shouldn’t be a long-winded explanation of your products or services.

Include all relevant information, but keep it simple. You don’t need to explain everything in detail.

If your target audience isn’t familiar with your products or services, don’t assume that they are. Explain the benefits of your services in a way that they can understand.

STEP 3: Be positive

People want to be around positive people.

Focus on solutions instead of problems. People are more likely to get into a solution than a problem.

Tell them what they want to hear. This makes them feel good and gives you a chance to sell more.

STEP 4: Ask questions

It’s important to ask questions.

Doing so can help you discover how much of your message your audience is getting and whether they understand you.

Ask for feedback from your audience. You can also use this as an opportunity to ask for their feedback and suggestions.

STEP 5: Get to the point

Your audience isn’t interested in your story or your history. They’re interested in your results.

Don’t overwhelm them with information. Keep your content short and sweet.

STEP 6: Be prepared

You don’t have to be a professional speaker to be prepared. Just be ready with answers to any questions that come up.

You don’t want to sound like a robot reading off a script, but you do want to be able to answer questions that come up.

STEP 7: Be genuine

Don’t pretend to care about things that you don’t. People can sense it.

Be authentic and honest. Show interest in what they have to say and ask them questions.

If you have nothing to say, then say nothing. It’s a good thing. Thanks for reading!

  1. Each of the steps that are explained are very clear, but in my opinion the most important thing for an effective communication is to have a broad knowledge of the subject that is being exposed.
